Ocean State Roller Derby is a skater-founded and governed roller derby league based in Rhode Island, operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our mission is to foster an inclusive, empowering, and volunteer-driven organization that promotes physical and psychological safety, self-expression, and athleticism through sport. We're dedicated to cultivating camaraderie and connection with members of the league and the surrounding community, including fans, friends, and family.

We established OSRD in early 2026 with a vision to form a recreational roller derby league in southern Rhode Island based on community, respect for oneself and others, and transparency. We’re looking to create a space for people to be themselves and enjoy the sport we love so much! Roller derby is also inherently a sport centered around acceptance and activism. There is quite a bit of LGBTQIA+ representation in the sport, and we pride ourselves on creating a safe space for all. Black Lives Matter, and Trans Rights are Human Rights.

Starting a league from the ground up has been no easy feat, but we are hitting the ground skating as fast as we possibly can. We have a small team beginning to gather in April for practices, and have big hopes and plans for growth and expansion. That's where we need your help to make our derby dreams come true!

We’re participating in participating in 401Gives - a fundraising event for RI-based non-profits taking place from 6am Tuesday, 3/31 until 6pm Wednesday, 4/1. Our main goal with this campaign is to raise enough funding to enable us to host a bout (aka roller derby game) later this year; they're quite costly, and we need startup funds to help us put on a truly memorable and successful event.
